I think I can go out on a limb here and say that the art of concocting a cocktail is one of extreme finesse, technique and accuracy. Or as you all know, a favourite word of mine, an artistry.
Why then, do we take cocktails for granted. It’s a lot like baking, once the measurement is out of the window, the key essence of the cocktail is lost, leaving you with just a mix of tinctures, yet the paradox of this rather technical art, lies in its scope to mix and match, alter and create potions, hybrids and combinations as per your taste, mood and interest!
And of course your capacity to handle alcohol hahaha! 😉
Here are a few super easy and simple cocktails crafted for any one who wants to try a hand at bartending, mixology or cocktail making, whatever you wish to call it. So here are a few simple and easy DIY cocktails for party season!
Named by me, well because why not?! It was the best part. YOLO. 😀
A cosmopolitan, or informally a cosmo, is a cocktail made with vodka, cranberry juice, and freshly squeezed or sweetened lime juice. We make it Rude by making a very easy version that doesn’t follow the original exact recipe haha! Replace the vodka with gin, white rum, or even tequila.
Ingredients: 2 tbsp lime juice, 100 ml Cranberry juice, 30 ml clear spirit of choice, 1 lime wedge.
Preparation: Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and double strain into large cocktail glass. Garnish with lime wheel.
“Orange You A Darling!”:
Much like the colour of the Bronx Team, this is a delicate drink that has a full body taste yet is as refreshing as a Sunday Morning.
Ingredients: 30 ml gin, 30 ml white wine of choice (sweet or dry), 100 ml orange juice, Orange peel for garnish.
Preparation: Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and double strain into large cocktail glass. Garnish with orange peel.
“Honey Where’s My Diaquiri?”:
Since Diaquiris are inevitable rum based cocktails, here’s a little twist that I think works really well, and a nice soft tasting cocktail that goes well with salty bites to eat!
Ingredients: 30 ml white rum/bacardi, 2 tbsps lime juice, 2 tsps honey, a herb leaf for garnish (mint or basil).
Preparation: Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and double strain into large cocktail glass. Garnish with a single herb leaf.
“Mint to be!”
Whisky and mint is a match made in heaven, meant to be! Here’s a refreshing drink with a warm alcohol that might just become a favourite of yours.
Ingredients: 30 ml whisky/scotch/bourbon of choice, 2 tbsps sugar syrup, lots of crushed ice, lots of fresh mint. More mint for garnish.
Preparation: Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well and double strain into large cocktail glass. Garnish with some more mint.
Enjoy! I had as much fun making these as I had naming them.
Do let me know if you do try them and and how they turned out.
